Here's my take: maybe he WAS targeted because of his race, but his over the top reaction exposes him as likely racist, himself. As the saying goes, "When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail."

I'm always offended when someone in a position of power, management, influence, wealth or whatever feels free to abuse people who they think are their inferiors in some respect. Mallory would have showed a lot more class if (a) he'd had his ID on him like he's supposed to and (b) explained and spoken quietly and courteously with the deputy. The guy was doing his JOB, which involves protecting the likes of Mallory himself from harm.

He should be ashamed of himself and should apologize.

He's a piece of work. Ask him where do his kids live....and why aren't they with him?

No one walks through the security checkpoint without showing ID. I go through there several times each week and everyone is wearing or holding up their ID. Why the Judge would be surprised is anyone's guess, but there was no racism involved.

If this non-news incident is given any more attention than it's already had, the same brouhaha will erupt here that the Enquirer created and exploited to sell newspapers--so why not just let it die right now?

Why not just not post on threads that don't interest you, rather than trying to shut down legitimate discussion of local events and issues?

The Mallory incident calls into question his impartiality as a judge. The Enquirer didn't create the situation.

Dunno what all this is about (the Cincy media online failed me), but this sounds exactly like what happened in Washington once with a Black US Representative from Georgia. She was challenged for ID when walking into the Capitol one morning and threw a hissy fit. (Compulsive Googlers are invited to look up "Cynthia McKinney slaps security guard.")

It's part of the suddenly-hot-lately, but longstanding, concept of "White privilege." My Caucasian native-born middle-aging self can dress appropriately for the surroundings and waltz in just about anywhere unchallenged. But someone with more melanin, or narrower eyes, or not speaking English will inevitably be stopped even when they have every right to be someplace. From time to time being hassled for ID on a daily basis by people who damn sure ought to recognize you has got to be aggravating to someone. But having a bad day can never happen. Because if you're forced to deal with the unnecessary bother and go off, the howls of "pulling rank" and "playing the race card" are guaranteed.

The whole Tracie Hunter mess is along the same lines. Granted, her tirades and her babbling about being God-anointed and so on are tiresome. But does anybody for one second sincerely believe that her alleged minor "offenses" are never perpetrated - let alone exceeded - by her colleagues who are of the "right" sex and race and have their network in place? Of course they are. She and Judge Mallory are being retaught the lesson that the law is the law and enforcement is selective.

What Tracie Hunter is charged with to deserve her conviction and imprisonment, was simple, direct and previously unheard of in any jurisdiction with which I am familiar. She backdated her decisions such that the prosecutors who work in her Court were unable to appeal those decisions because the time had lapsed. This is as fundamental a perversion of justice as can be imagined. Perhaps only exceeded by quoting a price for an acquittal or the like. Everything else she is charged with are just by-products of an intensive investigation.

In 35 years in the court system I have never head of a judge doing this, your comment to the contrary notwithstanding. When convicted, she deserves to languish in prison for what she did, whether she is black white or green.

As for Mallory, he was probably just having a bad day. The deputies are variously black and white, and enforce the rules with me as as they apparently did with him.

The big issue is the lack of security in general. I travel a lot and routinely have meetings with city agencies in other cities. If you go into a city building, Not just city hall but we are talking code enforcement, permits, planning, you empty your pockets, you go through a metal detector with security officers present. EVERYTIME you enter that building. City employees generally have a separate entrance (which they must use) or go through the same procedure.

I have never seen such lax security as in this city and county agencies. There is the REAL story!
