Ok I'm applying all over the country for job opportunities all over the country. And since Cincinnati is the largest city close to Florence KY I figured I'd ask here since according to maps it's only 13 miles.

So tell me, what are the people like? I would be coming from South Dakota but spent most of my like in a Minneapolis suburb.

What do people like to do? Are people generally friendly? Us Minnesotans tend to sometimes get talky. Is it pretty easy to meet people?

Yes and yes. Florence is part of Cincinnati's metro and it's a pretty cool, laid back place. What people like to do is hard to answer, but there are plenty of things to do around here. Florence is suburban and family oriented and quiet at night. Theres' no shortage of nightlife though, especially as you get closer to downtown Cincinnati. But people here in general are friendly, not that you won't meet the occasional snob but overall Ive found Cincy metro to be an easy nut to crack socially. Im not from here either.

I agree with Tom, though I think the nightlife can be found further out in the suburbs as well. A recent trend here, and maybe this is nationwide, is that a lot of micro breweries have opened up and most serve food, or have food trucks parked there, as well as have live entertainment. The Loveland and Milford areas have several and I know there are others in the area.

If you don't mind saying, I'd like to know your occupation. Let's say your new job doesn't work out, people can offer their opinions on whether or not it would be easy to find another job without having to pack up and move again.

Yeah, spot on. My only point was there is a higher concentration of nightlife in NKY and Cincy but you are absolutely correct. There are a lot of entertainment options in the burbs too, no doubt about it and it does seem more of a recent trend. Past 10 years or so.

The biggest difference is the climate, Cincinnati has very damp annoying winters, lacking a higher quantity of snow and drier air that you commonly find in Minnesota. Nothing more irritating than 35F and rain.

True. The six months of grey skies and barely above freezing temps sucks to me. Id rather have a real winter with a lot of snow.

People in KY and OH have harder lives than people in MN and are more "Eastern" by nature, for lack of a better term. Even though OH and, to a lesser extent, KY are considered part of the Midwest, the people who live in these states are, from the standpoints of attitude and temperament, closer to people in MD or PA than, say, MN or WI. Most of this hardship is self-inflicted (e.g., smoking, early marriage, poor diet, lack of exercise, not wearing seatbelts in moving vehicles, dropping out of school, interracial dating, etc.). Therefore, you will probably find people in KY and OH to be less bubbly and chatty than people in MN. When I first moved to KY from CA, I had some trouble adjusting to the average personality type in this area, having become very acclimated to gushy, sunny personalities during the decade I lived in CA. Since I moved here, I find myself greeting and smiling at strangers much less so because people seldom return the gestures; it has proved to be quite the personality adjustment for me. Other than that, I am happy to be living here.

Am I reading this right that you include "interracial dating" as an example of self-inflicted hardship?
