It's something you have to see in person actually. I see it in pictures and agree with it being ugly. But when I'm out walking on the streets and see it, it looks great.
Sheraton Dallas Hotel, opened in 1959 as Southland Center. Southland Center was the first mixed-use project in downtown containing both hotel and office space. Southland Center was the tallest building west of the mississippi. Southland Life vacated the complex when The Tower at Cityplace was opened in 1988. The Sheraton Dallas Hotel closed soon after. In 1990 a central tower addition of 25 floors and bay windows was proposed to make the complex competitive to newer projects going up in the city. However, the complex sat vacant for many years until the Adam's Mark hotel chain purchased and redeveloped all three towers of the complex into one large hotel in 1998. In 2007, the Adam's Mark Dallas was sold and reflagged as the Sheraton Dallas Hotel. A $90 million project began in 2009 to renovate guestrooms, public spaces and the convention center. The South Tower is the only building in the complex that was originally a hotel, it was called Sheraton Dallas Hotel.

Looks a lot like one we have in Chicago except in dark green not black with the gold.
That building would be pretty beast in royal blue or purple with the gold.
I give it 7.3/10 on design and gold alone. The black makes it to dull for night time and holds it back- since the building isn't glass lighted like most traditional style, IMHO.
