DC and its surroundings are pretty well known for their black middle-class population, and I've heard Houston mentioned as having a strong one as well, but how do the two metros compare integration wise, in terms of blacks and whites living/going to school/mingling together?

Houston is better in that regard. Houston is one of the more integrated major cities in the country.
I would imagine that it would be better in Houston. In the DC region, it seems like most Blacks are concentrated in the upper-class portions of outer-beltway PG County, or declining inner-beltway PG or downtrodden southeast DC (although portions are starting to get gentrified). Houston just seems like it has a larger Black middle class, and middle class areas tend to be more integrated.
I think Montgomery County, MD is more integrated then anything in the Houston area.
why do you say that? and the word is than, not then. sorry to sound condescending, I don't correct peoples spelling because everyone makes mistakes, but that is my only pet peeve because people confuse it a lot

Washington, DC EASILY has the largest and most affluent black populaton of any metropolitan area in the United States. That's why so many young blacks flock to this area after grad school, law school, etc. The only other city that might outrank DC in raw numbers is NYC, but the city's so big that the black middle class is not as visible. Atlanta and Houston have sizable middle class black populations, but the educational attainment of blacks in those cities is not on par with DC.
Honestly, I can't think of one American city where wealthy blacks live around whites in significant numbers. In New York, most upper class blacks live in Jamaica Estates, Queens and surrounding areas. Jamaica is mostly black. In Chicago, most upper class blacks live in predominantly black neighborhoods on the South Side. In Atlanta, upper and middle class blacks are segregated (generally self-segregated) from whites. The only city I can think of where a good number of middle class blacks live along side whites is Philadelphia. West Mount Airy is a mixture of Jewish and black, but even then, many middle class blacks opt to live in the predominantly black neighborhoods of East Mount Airy, Cedarbrook, West Oak Lane, Cheltenham and Wynnefield.
Houston is no different. I think Washington, DC has an edge on Houston, though, because blacks who are higher on the socioeconomic scale tend to associate with other races more.

Metro Atlanta: 1,701,581 (31.7%)
Metro Washington, DC: 1,380,540 (25.8%)
Hmm, I guess Atlanta fell off the face of the Earth huh?
