We are looking for the right enviroment for the upbringing of our son. We want an area where he will not get rediculed for having 2 mommies. We want to stay around East Tn but we dont have to be in TN. Looking for culture, arts, sports and just all around a good place for a gay couple to live and not hide who we are.
The Raleigh/Durham area seems like a good destination. It's built around a few universities, so there should be a decent amount of cultural activities, plus college sporting events, and the demographics make me doubt that they'd alienate you for being gay.
Lesson learned for everyone today: It's best to read all posts thoroughly before replying to them, as opposed to trying to post as many posts as you can per day.
To answer the OP's question - "ditto" on two previously mentioned areas... If you want a smaller city, Asheville (inside the city, not the burbs) is your best bet. If you want a larger area, Decatur Georgia would be it (inside Decatur for the school system not the surrounding area).
Ithaca NY, Buffalo's Elmwood Village, Rochester's Park Ave., Syracuse's Westcott neighborhood and Albany's Center Square neighborhood. Buffalo's Elmwood Village has some good schools in the area and some art galleries close by. Nice walkable area of the city that is generally safe. You could look a bit further up into North Buffalo as well.
