In ways all of these major cities are overrated when it comes to nightlife. Not that they dont have great nightlife, because they do, but so do several other large...and even medium/small metros.
lol All I need are some spots with beautiful women, great music for the setting, a suitable facility, alcohol and I'm ready to get at it.
This here.
I like DC and love ATL, but sometimes there can be too much hype and hassle with some of their more known nightclubs, just to get in there and be around a bunch of uptight fake celebrities and fake ballers who think their famous.

Atlanta has several scenes, you just have to get on the right email listing and go to the events for your demographic...Thing about Atlanta is the best parties in Atlanta arent advertised on the radio, you just have to know about them and/or be on the right email list. You got the college crowd, the hood crowd, the 21-25 crowd, the industry/popping bottles crowd, the 30+ HBCU crowd, etc.
I've only partied once in Philly. Had a great time, but I wasn't thrilled that the club closed at 2am. That sucked. As I understand it, that's due to state law and not local ordinance though.
Didn't read through the whole thread, but I had the same experience. Me and my friends were shocked that the clubs in Philly closed at 2AM, especially since its such a large city.
"...Philadelphia has never been known as a place for late night clubbing. Compared to the New York City nightclub scene, Philadelphia can appear tame. Bars in Philadelphia close at 2:00 am and only those that receive a special late night permit can be open past the 2:00 am cutoff point..."

Yeah, the 2am cut-off definitely hurts the Philly club scene. But to really party in Philly, you can't rely on the big mainstream type of dance clubs. You will need local friends who really know what's going on, and they'll put you down with the after-hours spots that don't open until well after midnight. Then again, that depends on what type of music you like--and whether or not you're intimidated by the certain parts of the city.
Philly's current underground & afterhours scene is mostly dominated by Dancehall/Reggae, and they have afterhours party spots mainly in West Philly like Lancaster Hall, Ibis Lounge, Millcreek Community Center, etc (unless things have changed, I don't really club anymore). But people who were into those scenes would hit spots like those after the mainstream clubs closed and would party into the morning. "Officially" they aren't supposed to serve any alcohol, but....it's available.
Again, things might have changed, I've been away from the whole club scene for a while.
