Just on purely dowtown overall I think Philly is arguably number 2 in the country (And the 2d best skyline) so of these three I will vote for Philly but all are among the 6 or so best downtowns in the country and all great US downtowns
My ranking on the 6 best would be
1 NYC
2 Philly
3 Chicago
4 SF
5 Boston
6 DC

I love your positive attitude on so nmany of these things and, oh, that it were so in all of them. Phillyneeds aits boosters and there are more of them than there were, but I do think it is better to be realistic and in some of these areas it is just not realistic.
This thread was funny. I forgot about some of the homerific statements in this thread. That's why you can't really trust what people say on this Board. According to C-D posters...
1. The DC Metro Area has dozens of Go-Go shows nightly with thousands in attendance. Patently false.
2. Cleveland has the second largest financial hub in the U.S. after Manhattan. That one still makes me chuckle.

i'm posting from boston right now and its a niiice city..clean and vibrant
very sophisticated
totally agree w/philly not being as up to date as boston & dc
philly is the "brooklyn" of the bunch
its pretty funny, i kept asking people about local bodegas or convenient stores downtown and everyone mentions CVS
The biggest issue in Boston is the downtown area only includes the financial district, Downtown Crossing, Government Center, and part of the theater district and most of the stores there are not convenience stores they are department stores and other retail stores. The few spots left open are mostly filled by CVS or Walgreens and to get a local store you would have to walk all of a few blocks to Beacon Hill or the North End.
