Sorry to bring this old thread up but I have been to all 3 cities especially DC which is near me.

DC has a downtown but it is not as established as Boston or Philly. There are just some museums, the Verizon center and office buildings as well as some restaurants and retail. Luckily the neighborhoods in DC make up for that. However, purely talking downtown, I would give higher marks for Philly and Boston for their downtowns.

This thread illustrates the changing in city data. Back when this thread was created, ppl used pictures to prove their point. Not any more.

That's only true for Boston and DC. Philly has more than 100 blocks of nice areas.

DT Philly is tiny compared to DT DC. It doesn't have the critical mass of people on it's trains or walking the streets during the day. According to Emporis, DT DC has many more buildings than Philly.

I doubt that you have been to Center City Philly if you actually believe that. If anything Philly has a LARGER critical mass than DC. Philly has over a dozen buildings over 500 ft. and the tallest is just 25 ft shy of being a supertall.
