Nope you are missing the point, I would not say that any of these cities are outwordly friendly, not the point at all
I will speculate that you are young and have not experienced all to a great extent. Boston has many exceptional attributes but like all cities has areas where it excels and does not
I understand the Philly/DC arguments which have rowhomes and taking that over Boston/SF with prodominatly Victorians/Triple deckers.
lol, all things aside, Boston is absolutely more uptight, and it's cultural not the transplants. DC is uptight, and it's the transplants not cultural. Philly and NYC are both more anything goes. This has nothing to do with "pace of life" btw.
Uhh same with NYC and Chicago - megacities tend to have sprawling suburbs.
Actually no. LA has more suburban build up than both NYC AND Chicago, w/o the urban core/public transit/etc. Do you think nobody has visited LA, Chicago and NYC? The difference is obvious. Now if you were trying to tout how Salt Lake City is or some other irrelevant place that maybe not many people have been to, I could see you trying to slip such comments under the rug outside of analysis...We all know your game.

Agree with all you say and the impact to pace of life as well

I don't know if I agree with this. Many people think of Boston as a blue blood, aristocratic town, but it's very much a surly, blue-collar town. Much like Philadelphia in that sense. I don't think "uptight" is how I would describe the culture.

No game here sir...
Well first of all I was responding to a poster that said it takes too long to get out of Los Angeles and into more rural areas. I am pretty sure if you started in Midtown Manhattan or the Loop in Chicago, it would take you a great deal of time to drive out to a rural area.
I agree there is nowhere in CHI or NYC like the Inland Empire in Southern California.
Los Angeles has a very urban core and has a decent, constantly growing PT system. It can't stand up to CHI or NYC but it is still very effective and gets me everywhere I need to go.

I'm living in Los Angeles without a car right now and I get around just fine. I think public transportation in L.A. is pretty good. Much better than I ever expected.
Just saying, LA should be winning,i made a mistake by voting for Boston, LA has an urban Downtown with a huge area of moderate urbanitity.
but Philly wins every poll in existance, there could be a
"what is the capital of Massachusetts?" poll and Philly would win.
