Hi,

I am single female in my 30's, living in Sarasota (previously Tampa) looking to leave FL for work opportunity. Presently, I could move to Dallas or Houston and just wondering if life would be better in Texas?

I LOVE the coastline but after living in FL for 10 years and not getting anywhere with my career I feel taking a chance in a city more catered to young professionals (not snowbirds/tourists) may be the best option for a better quality of life all the way around.

About Me
:
Love culture, intelligent conversations, thriving city, friendliness and sunshine.

Have you considered Austin?

From what I gathered Austin is not a city for me (live music, college students), plus I don't have an opportunity there. I have heard some good things about SA but again, no built in work oppt.

What about Atlanta... similar offerings to Dallas or Houston and closer for you. I prefer the Tampa area to Dallas or Houston..but hey, if you see your career capped off there, by all means move. The Tampa area has like a 12% unemployment rate. I also think Austin would not be for you in your 30s... I came to the same conclusion. Would have been cool from 18-25 or so though.

FLGal007 - I'm probably breaking protocol by asking you my own question on your thread, but I'm going to try...

You mentioned you lived in Tampa (then relocated to Sarasota). What is the scene like in Tampa for a 30's-something professional? Did you enjoy living there?

Thanks so much!

Grapico: From what I gathered on ATL it's a bag of mixed reviews (some seem to like it or they don't care for it). I really don't have much insider insight on the area, although it would be closer.

Chris: I lived in Tampa for 5 yrs, there is a lot of transients always moving in and out and from the overall perception (myself included) I found many enjoy living there for a while. There is a good mix of 30something professionals especially around the S. Tampa area. However, unless you already have a good work oppt. the competition is stiff (even if you have years of work exp.) all competing for the same position.

Trying to find a good position is difficult, the people who thrive come down with a job transfer or bring their business down (business owners); otherwise it's a struggle. The pay is really meager too but if you are coming from JAX and have money saved, I say between the 2 cities I would rather struggle in Tampa than JAX.
