I'd call them big mid sized cities, they aren't a Boston or Chicago or Miami or Atlanta or Dallas etc; but are still bigger than Tucson or Richmond or Buffalo. 2 million to 3 million metros I'd put in this group, while smaller mid sized metros 1-2 million

If we're only counting the big 4 (MLB,NHL,NFL,NBA), that would be:
Phoenix (4)
Los Angeles (8)
San Francisco (6*) *=Raiders are leaving after the upcoming season
Denver (4)
Miami (4)
Tampa (3)
Atlanta (3)
Chicago (5)
Indianapolis (2)
New Orleans (2)
Baltimore (2)
Washington DC (4)
Boston (4)
Detroit (4)
Minneapolis (4)
St Louis (2)
Kansas City (2)
Las Vegas (1*) *=will be 2 for 2020 when the Raiders relocate
New York City (9)
Charlotte (2)
Cleveland (3)
Cincinnati (2)
Philadelphia (4)
Pittsburgh (3)
Nashville (2)
Dallas (4)
Houston (3)
Seattle (2*) *=will get an NHL team for the 2021-22 season
Milwaukee (2)

And Richmond is far smaller than those cities. At 1.3 million people, the closest in size would be Austin, which has about 2 Million people, and that's a mid-size city at best.

Well IMO a big city is defined by the presence of a Federal Reserve bank and a United States Court of Appeals. RVA. Home to the Richmond Federal Reserve Bank and the Forth Circuit
Professional sports aren’t a status symbol, they are an indication that the city’s taxpayers are being fleeced by billionaires
And in the legal sense, if the move goes through, Charlotte will only have the Hornets. Because an HQ is technically where a team is based. Which means the Panthers would be based on Rock Hill, SC and play in Charlotte. The same could be said for the Washington Redskins. Based in DC, but play in Maryland. They’re still a DC team. But I’d still consider Charlotte a major city.

Rock Hill is a suburb of Charlotte, so it's still Charlotte area
Salt Lake City
Albuquerque (maybe)
Omaha
Oklahoma City
Raleigh-Durham
Austin (getting there, will no doubt cross the threshold soon)
Norfolk/VA Beach
This is a good list. What make you point to either Omaha or Oklahoma City though?
