Which city would you rather live in? The original motown or "new motown"? Of course you know which one I'll pick. But I have nothing against Detroit. I have family up in Michigan and I like visiting there. Detroit is more of an industrial city, while Atlanta is more commercial and technological. Both cities are ranked in the top for highest crime rates.

It's not even close, I'd much rather live in Atlanta. Better economy, better climate, tons of activities, beautiful parks, great downtown, etc etc. What exactly does Detroit have going for it besides cheap housing?

Atlanta no question...doing much better in every single category than Detroit, not to mention that it continues to gain population while Detroit continues to lose it. Much less segregated than Detroit as well. Cleaner...newer...SpeedyAZ pretty much summed it up in a nutshell..and the weather is generally not intolerable...yes the summers are hot but the winters are HEAVEN compared to Detroit's...Atlanta also has much less of a crime problem I believe than Detroit. Atlanta is one of the booming cities in the United States right now. Detroit is one of the declining cities. I loved Atlanta the first time I visited there...I would have absolutely no problems living there...I like it a lot better than St. Louis. Everything about Atlanta looks new and fresh....this is definitely a city on the rise.

detroit is changing and improving. you guys are asleep on it. altanta does not have any water; detroit is surrounded with the great lakes. detroit is right next to canada making it plenty to do. the summers are too hot in atlanta. detroit has snow, snow can be fun too. detroit torn down alot of its blight and built new homes. they are still an industrial city and industry will pick up again there too, its quietly happening now. people are starting to turn their backs on technology because it costs too much to have. but, we will always love cars. always, it is the cycle of america, detroit was once the city of choice and everyone went; the enconomy changed, now atlanta is for now. but i sure atlanta is already on a decline itself; one city cannot do it all. they all have to go through rebirth.

I would pick Atlanta over Detroit. Detroit have the advantage of having Canada close to it and Toronto about 5 hrs away. Do Detroit even have a mall in the city limits?

No, it doesn't. Most of the decent shopping is in the suburbs.

There's a fine line between being loyal and being delusional.

I've lived in both these places and have had time to build up a fair amount of contempt for both of them.

That isn't really saying much...Take that from someone who'd actually know about these things.
