Let’s try something new. Instead of the same old Boston vs Dallas or Phoenix vs Houston type polls, pick one or more match below on cities that have notoriety but fly under the radar here on City vs. City. Elaborate on which city you prefer out of these selections.

Waikiki Beach, HI, vs Miami Beach, FL
Bellevue, WA vs. Scottsdale, AZ
Alexandria, VA vs Cambridge, MA
Boulder, CO vs. Burlington, VT
Madison, WI vs Columbus, OH
South Padre Island, TX vs. Biloxi, MS
Santa Fe, NM vs Charleston, SC
Provincetown, MA vs Key West, FL
The Hamptons, LI (NY), vs Malibu, CA
Sedona, AZ vs. Aspen, CO

OK so we've got everything from college towns, edge cities, beach resorts, wealthy enclaves, mountain & desert recreation. Compare some of the following that would apply to your chosen match.

Character
Best vacation destination
Scenery
Food
Entertainment
Quality of life
Economy
Social atmosphere

Provincetown, MA vs Key West, FL

Character- Provincetown. Both towns have TONS of character, and both are sort of at the ends of the earth (Key West at the tip of the Keys, P-Town at the tip of the Cape). Both are known for being eccentric, artsy and havens for the LGBT community. However, I think P-town's dunes, New England village look (combined with the eccentricity), diversity for such a small town (from the LGBT community to Portuguese Fisherman, to Oceanographic research, to retirees) and history (first place the Pilgrim's landed in the U.S.) give it an edge over Key West. Both are incredibly unique though.

Best vacation destination- Key West. Key West has more to do year round. I'd probably choose P-town in June-Sept, but Key West has more going on for longer.

Scenery- P-town. I think the architecture and awesome location at the tip of Cape Cod make it one of the best. It's one of only a few places on the East Coast where you can see whales from the beach (Race Point) and the beaches are constantly ranked among the most beautiful in the country. Downtown P-Town and the harbor is constantly like a painting or a post card. Key West is great. Their marine national park is among the best places I've been, but P-town is more "scenic" overall.

Food- P-town. I'm a big believer that temperate and cold water seafood is better than warm water seafood. Give me Maine Lobster, Scallops, Cod, Tuna, and Scallops over Rock Lobster, Conch, Grouper, or Mahi Mahi any day. Combine that with P-town's decidedly Portuguese influence, and I'll take a meal in P-town any day.

Entertainment- Key West. It's bigger and offers more year round. In the summer it's probably a tie, but P-Town is a different planet in the off-season. Key West has more for longer.

Quality of life- Key West. In May and June as well as September and October, P-town probably wins. It's only a 90 minute ferry ride to Boston, the weather is nice during those months and the crowds are gone. However, It's overrun with tourists in July and August and it can be a cold, isolated place in the winter. Key West is more consistently comfortable.

Economy- Tie. Maybe a slight edge to Key West for year-round tourism. Both economies are VERY heavily reliant on tourism. Both do exceedingly well in those areas.

Social atmosphere- tie. Both about as progressive as you could ever expect a small town/city to be.

Overall- I like P-town as a New Englander. I love the architecture, the people and the scenery. However, If I had to live in Florida (frankly, one of my least favorite places in the country as a whole), Key West would be on my short list along with St. Augustine, parts of Miami and Tampa.

Waikiki Beach, HI, vs Miami Beach, FL. Waikiki is almost heaven on earth.
Bellevue, WA vs. Scottsdale, AZ. I like Bellevue's urban-like feel for a suburb.
Alexandria, VA vs Cambridge, MA. Cambridge is one of my favourite college towns.
Boulder, CO vs. Burlington, VT. Very tough decision, but I went for the Rocky Mountains.
Madison, WI vs Columbus, OH. Madison's a great college town.
South Padre Island, TX vs. Biloxi, MS. I wouldn't want to live in either.
Santa Fe, NM vs Charleston, SC. Close, but Santa Fe wins out because of the mountains.
Provincetown, MA vs Key West, FL. New England's going to win this every time.
The Hamptons, LI (NY), vs Malibu, CA. Another close one, but I love Malibu.
Sedona, AZ vs. Aspen, CO. I like Aspen more.

Waikiki Beach is more beautiful than Miami Beach except with little by the way of night life.
