For the record I do enjoy Boston but I think the above cities mentioned with the exception of maybe DC, have better nightlife, food, entertainment, people, culture, etc.
Boston is in my top 10 but at the bottom. Doesn't do it for me like other cities but still better than the Houstons and Detroits.

1. Chicago - imo, all the things that make NYC great but smaller, friendlier, cheaper
2. Washington DC - lots of fun but costly
3. Jacksonville - decent city with lots of potential, admittedly probably wouldn't like it if not my hometown
4. Gainesville - great college town imo. Not really much more than that.

1. NYC - ultimate big city and cultural hub in the US
2. Chicago - NYC-lite
3. SF - NYC of the west coast
4. Seattle - I enjoy the west coast vibe + pretty good urban environment and arts
5. Dallas - Surprisingly urban metropolis in the south with lots of great urban neighborhoods and decent mass transit
