We all know NYC, Chicago, and LA are world class and if you didn't know then its about that time that you did. Now the debate is on the second tier of cities in North America. Which is most world class and which is least? What do any of them offer uniquely? Which cities are more quality than quantity? Which one is most international and which one least? Feel free to throw in what you got.

This time stay on topic. Its worth debating so don't get it shut down.

Toronto, because it is the Premere city in the country, similar to how Sydney gets a higher Profile than Dallas, despite being smaller.

Toronto and DC.

SF and Boston are not world-class.

^^^I agree. Toronto, I think, is in the same zone as Sydney, Munich, and maybe a few inches below Berlin.

Washington is up there just because it is the capital of one of the world's most powerful countries.

Boston and San Francisco are great, and certainly have a lot of name recognition around the world, but they are not on the level or scale of Toronto.

world-class - definition of world-class by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

Quote:
world-class (wûrldkls)
adj.
1. Ranking among the foremost in the world; of an international standard of excellence; of the highest order: a world-class figure skater.
2. Great, as in importance, concern, or notoriety.
All of them fit, at least in the dictionary definition scheme of things.

If anyone wants to disprove why ANY city in this thread, or hell any top 10 city in the US or top 3 Canadian city (Vancouver, Toronto, MTL) is NOT World Class, please provide a formula of why it isn't so that way we can equally apply it to every single city in the world.

Anyone who truly knows the meaning of "world class" would know that all of these cities easily fit the bill.

because of the Preimere national city status of Toronto, i think it makes it above Boston, SF, and probably DC.

Ok, so Thimpu, Bhutan is more powerful than LA and Chicago because its the premier city of Bhutan. And using your logic, Toronto is more world class than LA and Chicago because its the premier city of Canada while LA and Chicago aren't for the United States (though some might agree with you, its probably stretching it just a bit for most people)

Not every country is built the same way. Given the US' population (more than 300 million) and economic status (very important, even more so than pure population IMO) , its impossible to have 1, 2, or even 3 world class cities.

That's why arguing which one is "more" world class in the context of "relative importance in a country" is stupid because the US isn't a country of 30 million, nor is Canada a country of 300 million.

If toronto was in the US, it would be on the Same level as SF, Boston, and Dc, but by being the cultural and Economic hub of Canada, as well as the countries Premire city on the International stage, it is push above the rest, IMO
