Actually Georgia is the most liberal state in the south. I think some forgetting that Georgia was a blue state between 1932-1964,1976,1980 and 1992.

VA is pretty much in the same situation as Florida. Most of VA's blue votes come from Northern transplants who've moved to Northern VA. Most of Florida's Blue votes come from Northern transplants who've moved to Florida, and from Florida's large minority population(larger than VA's). What makes Richmond, or Blacksburg, or VA Beach, or Norfolk, anyless "Southern" or "Conservative" than Miami, Orlando, or Tampa? Miami's Black population is Southern through and through, no doubt. But so is Virginias. VA is no diffirent from the rest of the South in this regard also.

And plus, South Florida's counties are reliably Blue, and not just flukey and swingy Blue. You can use the Dixiecrat argument for Florida being Blue, but there aren't that many White Dixiecrats left in South Florida. And most of the registered Dixiecrats vote Republican anyway.

Honestly, if we're judging progressiveness based on ALL criteria, I'd say Texas, because economically Texas is always reinventing it's self, it's pulling away in pharmaceticals, biotech, and other sectors, and Texas just seems like the state of the future. So Texas is the most progressive. If we're speaking politically, than I'd say VA is number 1, with Florida not too far behind. Honestly, what other Southern state would be number 2 over Florida and would match-up with VA?

All of the southern states were blue until 1964. That doesnt make them liberal.

^ They weren't blue in the sense of what we consider "blue" today as in Liberal Dems. The Dixiecrats switched parties after the Civil Rights was passed in the 1960s. Remember what LBJ said after signing Civil Rights legislation? "We lost the South"!

Very true. Today's southern GOPer's would of been hardcore dems 60 yrs ago.

Election Results

1) VA
2) FL
3) NC
4) GA
5) SC

Tennessee and Arkansas??? Are you serious? They couldn't reach 40% (democratic) in the last election. All of the states I mentioned above had at least 44% which SC being the lowest. There's no way that I would place TN and Ark. before either of the states above or Texas or Louisiana for that matter.

False, Richmond feels much more southern than Atlanta...try Columbia SC for example. Atlanta doesn't feel southern at all anymore. It still has some southern areas of course but too many transplants have gave it a different feel. Also, the northern suburbs of ATL has always put me in the mind of NOVA.
