So what I mean by "new age" cities is the cities of the future...the next generation of cities to replace or in the future become relevant. So as of now I think most would agree that the following cities are your typical us major cities ...NYC...Chicago..LA..San Fransisco... DC...Boston...etc...but which cities do you think will become the new era of cities?
They are not random cities. Most of these cities are on the top of many top growth lists, or are cities that are bound to recover from the recession (Detroit, st Louis, new Orleans). Houston and Dallas are bigger cities but when mentioned with NYC Chicago LA etc always seems to get shuttered to the side. So the question is what group of cities has the best chance in the future to replace the major cities? Yes, it will be many many years away but out of the list what group has the best shot. And mostly its based on geographic location besides the first group which is a group of super growing cities.
If you're asking what three cities will replace the current big three (NYC, LA, Chicago), that will never happen. Only Houston truly has a shot at cracking the top three, the others will never come close.

Except that the first group is not a group of super growing cities. Raleigh and Charlotte are growing faster than Nashville and Portland.
