Glad you like Denver so much. It really is a great city.

They're both about the same size and extremely livable for mid-majors.

To me, Portland is a better option for outdoor enthusiast as the outdoors are closer and less of a hassle, but Denver has more variety and opportunity once you get "Into The Wild".

No one really knows how well you'll adjust to the weather in Portland vs Colorado. They're so different you wouldn't reallllly know if can handle it till you lived in Portland an entire winter.

You all are still young? Move to Portland. If you hate it, you'll always have the rest of your life to live in Denver. That said, if you're about to start a family I'd stick close to home as others have mentioned.

Portland is just over 2,000,000 metro and Denver is over 3,000,000 people metro so Denver is considerably bigger than Portland.

Portland MSA 2,314,554
Portland CSA 3,022,178

Denver MSA 2,697,476
Denver CSA 3,277,309

That seems fairly similar in size to me although Denver is definitely around 300k larger.
