I've often regarded Chicago traffic as awful. There are few periods of the day/week where it's not congested. As is New York and LA. I've never understood how they determine which city has the worst traffic, I've seen different matrixes on it. It often seems cities other than the three biggest are named as the worst traffic. Does it have something to do with a per capita variable, or along that line?
One of my friends told me that when she visited Atlanta, traffic was bad but not as heavy or unpredictable as it is up here in the DMV (DC metro area).

LOL. We can blame Deal for that clusterf***. Kasim Reed to a lesser extent. Without getting too much in to the subject, yeah, when everyone leaves work at the same time and what little salt trucks we do have can't get to key areas, Atlanta is screwed.

Other cities with nasty traffic that you left out would be Seattle and Austin.

So why is there no public transport in LA?

That's not our system but yes (that's some sort of fantasy map), LA has transit. HRT, LRT, Commuter Rail, Buses.

Houston has to rank among the five worst cities in the U.S. for traffic. Dallas is not very far behind. As for the worst drivers, Miami, Florida gets my vote.

San Francisco traffic isn't bad at all outside of rush hour. Heck, even rush hour is better than one might expect. I'd argue Phoenix and Dallas have worse rush hour traffic than San Francisco.

From my experience the order would go: DC, LA, and then Honolulu.

LA. The area is so heavily populated and the sprawl so huge that traffic jams happen all over an extremely wide area.

I just found that by doing a quick google image search for "Los Angeles rail". All I know is that some joker was asking why L.A. has no public transit.

Seattle is starting to compete for worst traffic in the country. This place is growing faster than it can handle the traffic.
