You can see all the development and people walking on the East Beltline after the opening of Ponce City Market. It spurred development all the way down to Krog Street Market.

Some new projects have opened in LA's Arts District since this thread was started. The 6th street bridge was completed, a SoHo hotel opened, more residential and office has opened. Warner Music and Spotify have located there,...but overall it's much the same. It has nice residential with significant dining and nightlife but not exactly bustling.

Coming up though it has a 32 story tower under construction, a few more towers planned, and three new very large studios in various stages of approval that will bring thousands of new jobs. Plus some other really nice projects.

Ponce City Market is probably the best of the 4.

As previously mentioned the Delaware River neighborhoods (most notably Fishtown) have captured the lion's share of creeping development extending out from Center City. In terms of commercial development perhaps Brewerytown's slower revitalization might have more to do with the large tracts of land involved with whole blocks of abandoned warehouses versus smaller, less costly options in the Fishtown area. There's also the fact Breweytown's fringes are still very poor, rundown and not perceived to be as salvageable as what surrounds NoLibs/Fishtown.

My gripe with Union Market is that the actual market has too few vendors and they're all expensive. The 2nd floor needs to be converted into another food hall. Also, the rooftop is just some astroturf with tables around. You guys could learn a thing or two from Ponce City Market.

Pounce City Market is an indoor shopping mall with a few apartment buildings around it. They’re not really comparable in that way. I will say Ponce City Market is pretty dope though, but it’s more like Tyson’s Corner Mall meaning it’s a great indoor mall with high-rises being built around it and parking, but it’s not like Midtown Atlanta or downtown Atlanta.

The actual Union Market in DC at this point is a market within an entire dense neighborhood (NOMA/Union Market) that will surpass over 30,000 residents soon. It’s becoming seamless from Union Market to Georgetown. Everything is starting to bleed together. Now development is headed north connecting to Eckington and RIA (Rhode Island Avenue) to the northeast and McMillin and the Armed Forces Retirement home redevelopment to the Northwest. It’s not a great comparison with the neighborhood surrounding Ponce City Market anymore based on the size of the neighborhoods. If Ponce City Market was in Midtown Atlanta, it would be more of an accurate comparison based on how the neighborhoods changed over the last 8 years.

That’s not taking anything away from Ponce City Market, it’s just more of an attraction versus an entire neighborhood like Midtown Atlanta for example.

Yeah, I don't think Brewerytown really competes in this group. When this thread was started 8 years ago, there was a lot of hype around that neighborhood, and while it has made strides, other Philly neighborhoods - sections of South Philly, U. City, Fishtown, Kensington/Port Richmond and even the further out Riverwards have boomed instead. Brewerytown will get there though...

Long term, there are plans to add a few floors of housing above the market. So I suspect anything up there is designed more as a place holder.

You're probably right about the vendors in the actual market building itself, but there's change coming and who knows what else will be affected by the apartments planned on top. That whole rooftop area will becoming living space soon. I think they currently use the area as an events space, and even had a tennis tournament up there.
