What a city offers is largely irrelevant. It's all about supply and demand. Otherwise, the argument could be made that every expensive area is overpriced.

Anyway, yes the Bay Area is by far the most expensive metro area not only on the Pacific Coast, but the entire continent.

San Francisco Metro Area & Santa Clara County
Median Home Price, June 2015

San Francisco, CA $1,339,290
San Mateo County, CA $1,300,000
Marin County, CA $1,163,460
Santa Clara County, CA $990,000
Contra Costa County, CA $839,910
Alameda County, CA $814,480
This^ is 6.5 Million people we're talking about btw.

After the Central Bay Area, Vancouver is the next expensive in North America.

Vancouver, BC Metro Area $854,164 USD
Vancouver

California Counties June 2015 Median Home Price:
June 2015 sales and price report

Los Angeles Metro Area
Orange County, CA $716,730

San Diego Metro Area
San Diego County, CA $569,530

Other Expensive Northern California Counties
Santa Cruz County, CA $726,000
Napa County, CA $641,670
Sonoma County, CA 573,640

Other Expensive Southern California Counties
Santa Barbara County, CA $746,320
Ventura County, CA $634,190
San Luis Obispo County, CA $534,650

And then there's Hawaii...

I don't think the OP has a good grasp on the term 'overpriced'.

Better to just say which city would you personally not pay to live in... or just ask people what their least favorite city is.

OP could also ask about the cost of living compared to the wages.

Yep, when I said better I didn't mean best

But the cities listed are all pretty close on the COL scale so it would be kinda like asking which city do you like the least, that's what I meant above.

Good thing you didn't put Vancouver in there.

Real estate in Vancouver is a full 40% more expensive than #2 spot Toronto yet Vancouver is one of Canada's poorest cities. Compared to income, Vancouver is the most expensive city in the English speaking world.

It has a milder climate but compared to Montreal or Toronto it is both parochial and painfully boring.

You can have any of them. They're all over-priced, over-rated and full of egotistical people and illegals.

I don't look up cost of living all that much but this would surprise me. I was under the impression that Los Angeles and San Diego were significantly more expensive than at least Portland.

Will have to look this up when I'm in the mood for it.
