Simple question, really. Which state siblings have the most intense rivalry? Rivalry as in economics, culture, sports, etc. Note that intensity doesn't necessarily equate to parity between the cities, though I suspect this will be a 3 way race with fairly close rivals in stature.

Los Angeles vs San Francisco? Houston vs Dallas? Kansas City vs Saint Louis? Minneapolis vs Saint Paul? Philadelphia vs Pittsburgh? Cleveland vs Cincinnati?

Discuss. Tried to think of the biggies, but feel free to add a rivalry if I forgot one.

Not so much in real life, but the LA v. SF rivalry is pretty intense on these forums.

Not a biggie, but Albuquerque and Santa Fe tend to rub each other the wrong way. Santa Fe has more charm and is more interesting to visit and they know it. Burqueños think Santa Fe is pretentious.

Also Ohio has three contenders duking it out, the three C's.

Texas has a whole family of siblings bickering at each other. Even though Dallas vs Houston probably has more posts on C-D than any city vs city concept thread here (that I've seen), Austin has enough notoriety and character of its own to instill rivalry discussion.

Minneapolis and Saint Paul are too close to be a rivalry, they are essentially one and the same.

I voted L.A.vs SF, with Houston/Dallas and KC/STL very close behind imo. Sports are the most visible and heated aspects of intrastate rivalries to the masses, and people die over Dodgers/Giants (unfortunately), while Clippers/Warriors is now a thing. Though you could argue outside of sports, the other two pairings are much closer in stature, economics, and influence.

Interesting about NM. Figured there would be a dynamic there (along with Phoenix and Tucson in Arizona) but wasn't sure.

Also thought of Columbus in Ohio, which has really boomed in population and jobs. Thought it might be too recent an addition, along with the relative lack of national recognition outside of OSU, but am I mistaken?

If you consider the one way hate from San Francisco towards LA a rivalry, than sure I'll vote for that.

LOL. Agreed.

However, like qworldorder mentioned, sports is a whole 'nother ball game. Pun intended.

You sure? I remember a MN poster saying that it's still pretty intense, with the fact that all MN sports teams are named "Minnesota" as kind of a peace treaty between the two. That the "Twin Cities" moniker in general is to foster good relations, and not necessarily indicative of actual "buddy-buddy" love.
