Chautauqua in Boulder is technically a city park and would definitely rank in the top ten. Although there are no ballparks, sidewalks or fountains. Yawn.

Rock Creek park in DC. Runs practically the entire length of the city.

Point Defiance Park in Tacoma is absolutely amazing--one of the best and overlooked parks in the nation for sure.

I would have Falls Park in downtown Greenville SC around the waterfall. And Spokane's downtown park around its waterfall.

It was readers' choice dude, and as a regular Central Park-goer, I could easily see why it's not top 5. Everyone who doesn't live here just assumes it has to be one of DA BEST because it's iconic. Just because something's iconic doesn't automatically make it the best. People rarely mention Prospect Park in these C-D park posts, because unless you're a resident you're unlikely to go. But for those in the know...it's the better park. At least aesthetically, or if you care about getting some nature in your life as a break from the city.

What about Balboa Park in S Diego or Lincoln Park in Chicago? Did I miss Golden Gate Park or was it too overlooked? Yikes what a list. Prospect Park is nice but makes the list a bit New York-heavy and is already noted as Texas/Okla-heavy. Offsetting all that, we could debate the status of urban parks forever.

If we are adding to the list, I would add the Cleveland Cultural Gardens because of its uniqueness. It's 3 miles of separate gardens representing around thirty different countries each with its own different topiary, statues and landscaping.

Lincoln Park isn't really a great park. I honestly think central park is underrated. It has a lot to offer that most people don't realize. I spent much of my childhood exploring every inch of that park, from the hidden fort in the north woods, to the suicide cave. The observatory garden, and Lasker Rink, which doubles as a swimming pool in summer. Central Park is seriously great.

Discovery Green does not belong on this list. It's not even the best park in Houston. Memorial Park and Hermann Park are both better than Discovery Green. Buffalo Bayou Park is great but it's not better than Hermann Park which is the best park in Houston and even it wouldn't be good enough to make a top 10 list.
