Chicago is the worse. Miami doesn't get cold in the winter, and doesn't get as hot as Chicago in the summer.
I would have to agree with this assertion. I was amazed when several hundred people in Chicago died from a Heat Wave several years ago during one which was a horrible tragedy.
Miami doesn't have heat waves and the city has never had a temperature over 99 F degrees since it's founding in 1896. The sea breeze on the coast brings heavy rains during the Summer that cools the city on a daily basis.
The temps in a Summer afternoon thunder storm drop from the mid 90's to the low 80's & 70's in a matter of minutes while still being "humid".
The humidity in NYC & DC during August is horrible as well.

May 70.2 humidity: 64%
June 79.9 humidity: 66%
July 84.2 humidity: 69%
August 82.1 humidity: 70%

And as for the "sea breeze" legend- even if true, most people in Miami aren't going to be right on the beach so how does the sea breeze help them? And it does nothing to reduce the humidity, in fact it probably makes it worse.

Chicago is nowhere near as hot as Miami. People died during a heat wave in Paris more recently than Chicago's. Would you say Paris is hotter than Miami?
These seats occur because these cities aren't normally that hot and for that reason, many people don't have ac. Most of the people who died in the Chicago heat wave were elderly people who lived in high crime neighborhoods, and were afraid to leave their windows open at night. It was a tragedy.

Even though I prefer Chicago as a city, I would prefer a Miami summer over a Chicago winter. The reason I left the city was because of the winter! The city is so damn cold, grey and windy, at least on a hot day you can still go out and do stuff.
Honestly. I hate summer days that are hot in Chicago.
I'm talking hot, humid days.
And having that constantly... aka... Miami summers, would be a killer.
I walk my dog, and go out in the coldest of days. I'm talking teens/Single digits.
I see people with no beanies or scarf/Gaiter mask and then complain on facebook.
Like geez, of course it sucks if you're not dressed right.
Thermo underneath, and a thick shirt/sweater under the coat/jacket.. a beanie and one a half mask gaiter i can pull up or down easily.
I'm good.
Heat... while you technically can walk around and do everything. You do need to go in the shade, or into an AC room, or not exert yourself, or drink water constantly...
I remember a week in Chicago that was in the high 90s during the day. At night it didn't cool down at all.
It felt like hell.
I'm glad it cools down in la/California at night.
Being hot all the time just seems miserable/hellish.
Gross.
