Personally, I think they could have chosen better names for some of the states.

"Jefferson" and "Silicon Valley" suck as state names to me, but oh well...

How about "New California" and "Golden State" instead?

Well everything about this is stupid. Why would anyone support spliting Marin Country off into a different state, away from the Bay Area?

Why would you cut Orange County off from the rest of the LA area?

This must be a joke.

I feel like the northernmost state should be named Shasta.

Not a joke, however I agree... Marin County should remain with the rest of the Bay, and Orange County should remain with LA. Definitely could have drawn the lines better.

"Silicon Valley"? So we're going to name a state in response of a type of industry that is prevalent in that region for the time being? Following that logic, how about we name Central Valley "Moo-Moo-Ville" or West California "Hollywood". Pretty terrible names.

I think the division would leave "Silicon Valley" state as the wealthiest and most financially sustainable, followed by West CA in 2nd place (burdened by a problematic poverty rate and bad education levels) and South CA in third (mostly dragged down by the high unemployment rate in the IE.)

The division would result in 3 very poor states, however. I don't even want to imagine the poverty levels that "Central CA" would produce.

I think if a split were to occur at all, the most logical split should be to divide CA in half by North and South (with Fresno at the border of each state). This would leave two states that are still very large in terms of size and population, but much more manageable than California as a unified state. This would still be a disproportionate division, with South California being incredibly large (and quite difficult to manage).

I agree that the whole is stupid, but I have to assume the intention of the LA/OC divide was to split along ideological lines. LA is very, very liberal and OC is very, very conservative.

With North Carolina & South Carolina already existing and already using "NC" and "SC" how will North California & South California be abbreviated???
