We have a lot of them in the grocery stores here in New England (of course), but Idaho has the best potatoes, better tasting and better for baked potatoes and french fries.

Yeah potatoes are a big deal in Aroostook County, Maine. I don't know the difference in flavor, size, appearance, etc. between Maine potatoes and Idaho potatoes. I don't know which are sold at Shop Rite or which get diced up at my favorite french fries stand.

Uh oh. SOMEBODY just did some research.

And, as I suspected... if you're having a battle of the "top two potato states", Maine isn't going to be invited to the party. Sorry, kids. Truth patrol. Out.

1. Idaho 12.89 Billion Pounds)
2. Washington 8.99 Billion Pounds)
3. Wisconsin 2.94 Billion Pounds)
4. North Dakota 2.55 Billion Pounds)
5. Colorado 2.40 Billion Pounds)
6. Minnesota 2.04 Billion Pounds)
7. Oregon 1.85 Billion Pounds)
8. Maine 1.80 Billion Pounds)
9. California 1.51 Billion Pounds)
10. Michigan 1.42 Billion Pounds)

This is definitely one of the more unique threads. I live in New England and I didn't even know that Maine was famous for potatoes.
