It’s a ridiculous comparison. As much as CD likes to pretend, the entire island of Manhattan does not function as NY’s downtown, So it’s silly to compare all of Manhattan with such a small portion of Chicago.
I don't think you're wrong, but how else do you compare NYC without reducing it's value on purpose?
Chicago is fantastic, but comparing it to NYC is just impossible. Comparing any city in NA to NYC is impossible. Same could be said for comparing Philly to NYC, or even LA to NYC.

You can do a downtown to downtown comparison, or a Manhattan to loop and northside comparison. I’m not saying that Chicago would win any of those, but they are more reasonable than all of Manhattan versus downtown Chicago. I didn’t go back and look through the thread, but I’ve seen posts that argue that everything south of 96 street should be compared to Chicago, east of the river, and between Roosevelt and Division. New York is one of the most impressive cities in the country, and they still feel the need to give it an unfair advantage in silly C – D polls
No comparison: Downtown Chicago is a lot smaller than Manhattan and not as fun. Downtown Chicago is a regional destination for Midwestern and business travelers alike while Manhattan is a world destination for the rest of the world and U.S..

"Agree!"
-- Say all the "regional" visitors from England, China, Germany, Mexico, Central America, etc., and the business people visiting United, Boeing, et al, and the hundreds of top-tier (and global) law, accounting and advertising firms in Chicago.
This is the type of bombast which is really just cloaked provincialism, and makes NYC look petty and arrogrant. Most New Yorkers don't hold this mindset, or at least do not make comments like this out loud. Don't add to it. It's not a good look.

The best part about living in Chicago was talking to international tourists about the city.
Generally, the conversation started like this: "This is unbelievable.. I can't believe how nice.."
I do think statistics support the idea that Chicago is not a destination internationally like other major cities in North America. But, it's always nice to say 'I told ya so' when they do come.
