I work with a lady from Michigan, she always says Lake Michigan has the best beaches and summer recreation. Sleeping Bear Dunes looks really cool. Lake Michigan also has Chicago and add Milwaukee for good measure so that would be hard to top. Judging by photos Lake Superior seems to have the most wild, remote, and scenic areas. Lake Huron doesn't seem to get a lot of discussion.
I've only seen the great lakes from the urban shoreline perspective of Chicago and Cleveland. I'd like to see more areas and natural shoreline in Michigan itself, particular in the north.
While Lake Michigan has Chicago and Lake Ontario has Toronto by far the largest and most exciting cities on the Great Lakes, I still think Lake Superior takes the title for overall natural beauty and impressiveness.
