As someone who used to live in the DC area...DC, easily and obviously. Make all the federal land like the Capital, Supreme Court, White House, Mall, and monuments "the federal zone" or whatever, and turn the rest of the city into a state.
Either that or give DC the full privileges that states get.
We don't need any more states. We have enough issues trying to manage 50, and it's getting harder over time to achieve common ground and work together. We might even ultimately lose some of the states. The future isn't so bright if you look at the trends over the last 50 years. You have to be at least 50 to have seen the changes with your own eyes to fully understand what I'm talking about. A study of civilizations always shows the ebb and flow / rise and fall of nations. It's always gone on, and will always occur.
Actually just realized the Marshall Islands were part of the poll. They achieved independence from the US in 1986.
California and Texas were independent republics before they became states, so it wouldn't be without precedent.
