Katarina Witt: And that's why NOVA_guy reacted quizzically to the appearance of Tooele County, Utah, at the top of the list of counties with the highest black median household income. We are concentrated in certain parts of the country, most of them either large cities on the coasts* or in the former slave states - and save for Denver, where you live, the Intermountain West is particularly bereft of us. (Well, actually, Denver's not in the Intermountain West, for it's on the other side of the Rockies. It's still an exception, though, for there are also precious few African-Americans on the Great Plains west of the 100th meridian.) Edited to add: And I do note an unusually high number of counties in the Intermountain West, plus one suburban Denver county, on that list (Jefferson does touch Denver City/County, right?). Fairbanks (Borough), Alaska, too.

BTW, SteelCityRising, you meant Baltimore City, not Baltimore County, right? (Like St. Louis in Missouri, the two jurisdictions in Maryland are entirely separate.)

*All four: Atlantic, Pacific, Gulf and Great Lakes. Of course, since all of the states bordering the Gulf of Mexico are former slave states, that coast is covered by the second locational qualifier.
Yes, I know that, and even Denver doesn't have a large black population (just under 10%). It's next door neighbor to the east, Aurora, has about a 15% black pop, diluted down by being in two counties (Adams and Arapahoe). Adams is 40% Hispanic. Yes, Jefferson County has a long border with Denver on Denver's west side.

Allow me to give my interpretation of NOVA_guy's surprise-east coast provincialism; Utah is "flyover country", full of Mormons.

I've already explained that's not at all what I was saying...

What's even more insane is the bay area numbers from 2016 for instance SF had a medium household income of $103k for 2017 $110k the entire Bay area posted gains like this. Don't be surprised if by 2020 it skips all the way to the top right behind Loudoun. My guess is it'll still by Loudon by a hair, and then all Bay area counties. Not to mention all the IPOs. Ik DC is getting Amazon, but in reality these numbers are already two years behind I can guarantee the Gap has already begun. I expect Alameda to skip most counties in front of it as well.

Santa Clara had $111k in 2016, for comparison Loudon in 2016 had $134. 2020 will be very interesting though. Alameda was $89k, and San Mateo was $108k. They've all increased by a minimum of $7k in one year.
