Yes it does. You have to know how to use the form. I'm not pulling numbers out of thin air or providing links to US Government sites for the hell of it.

Well it seems a better measurement than cost would be to see the amount of square footage being built.

That link makes Austin look insane. Ranked #5 despite being #30 in population. It makes sense though, Austin's current zoning makes it very difficult to build attached homes or townhouses, so a huge percentage of growth has to be filled through apartments. Also Austin's traffic situation limits the demand to sprawl outward somewhat.

Yeah Austin even outranked Houston and Atlanta.

Some notes:

-NYC stands out above the rest big time...it's not particularly close.
-Surprised Dallas is not top 5 considering the population and job growth of the region...in fact it's barely above Atlanta and Houston.
-Austin stands out big time. Top 10, yet only about 2.3 mil in population....it's truly incredible how much Austin overperforms.
-Seattle surprised me with how low it is...I wonder if things are cooling there.
-SF is an underperformer for how much of a boomtown it is with Tech. I know this doesn't include SJ.
-Very surprised not to see Denver and Charlotte in the top 20
From what I can tell, this doesn’t account for number of units in each “start”. I think that may be part of why Seattle is lower than expected - it has a lot of large scale projects with hundreds of units.

Edit: Just saw the post above which confirms that.

Being directly involved with lots of MEP Engineering for commercial/multi-family construction in Orlando, I'm very proud.

This list just seems more reasonable. Austin is HOT, but not as hot as Dallas and Houston.

This is only for multi unit permitting though. It does not take into account office and commercial new construction.

Perhaps but the link provided included warehouse construction and I would argue that 1 million square feet of warehouse construction isn't the same as 1 million square feet of office or housing.
