Corpus Christi is rather isolated compared to Mobile, which is in the middle of a continuous stretch of metro areas along the central Gulf Coast. The climate is different as well, with Mobile getting at least twice the annual rainfall on average, and with slightly lower temperatures year round. Mobile has much more lush, green vegetation as a result.
Mobile seems to have more industrial development and larger port facilities as well, which should help generate more growth in the future. Tourism is also probably more substantial across the bay in Baldwin County (Fairhope, Gulf Shores, etc.) in terms of being a destination from beyond the immediate region. My impression is that the western Gulf tends to not have as much recognition beyond Texas.
Mobile certainly has a much better looking statistical profile when combined with Baldwin County, both in terms of size and economic status. If just Mobile County is compared against Nueces County, the comparison would be a lot more even.
Mobile has a lot more to offer than Corpus. It is also close to Pensacola, Florida and all those beautiful Emerald Coast beaches along Perdido key. Casinos in Biloxi etc. Ever New Orleans isnt that far. There are a lot of things to do for a day trip near Mobile and the beaches are much better than the Texas beaches. Another thing is that housing is probably cheaper

Both have really nice beaches. Mobile is close to Orange Beach, so they get the edge for beaches. But Corpus Christi beaches plus food and entertainment, to me beats Mobile and surrounding areas.

Corpus Christi beaches are nice too. And we aren't talking about proximity unless its in the general area. If you're going to say New Orleans is close to Mobile, may as well say San Antonio is close to Corpus.
