Similar to the thread about Minneapolis after the George Floyd incident, how about Atlanta after the Rayshard Brooks incident? Also not in Atlanta but in Georgia recently we had the Ahmaud Aubrey incident, so Georgia's been in hot water lately. Do you think it's possible and likely for Atlanta to undo about 15-20 years of progress?

In a word, no.

This is a very prosperous place, with some of the best race relations amongst the general population in the Country. We'll come out of this even better than we are now. These are unusual times for all of us.

Unfortunately, I'm sure Aceter will be here within minutes to pronounce us as destroyed....

There are a lot of stories coming out of Atlanta this past week, but I don’t think it will affect it’s image at all. The main reason Baltimore and St. Louis have a stigma is because there was already one in place. Those events just escalated things. Atlanta overall is growing rapidly and the good seems to outweigh the the bad (At least in the media). Baltimore and St. Louis don’t have the PR team to match

Also take into consideration that there almost no places safe from these events, even metro's considered as 'White Enclaves' are being impacted by them.

Not even close. Atlanta does not have the terrible reputations they do and is significantly more influential and important. Atlanta is taking swift action despite being located in a less than progressive state.

I wouldn't say the racial dynamic in Atlanta is bad but I certainly wouldnt characterize it as among the best in the country either. There is friction present but it's quite different than in most other cities as it occurs when the urban Black power structure in the city clashes with the GOP power structure in state government and, to a lesser degree, in the suburbs--usually in high-profile ways. Atlanta's issues at the moment demonstrate that the racialized aspect of police brutality includes instances when both law enforcement and civilians are Black and that it involves other factors such as class.

Atlanta is overwhelmingly segregated: predominantly white in the hillier North, predominantly black in the flatter South. It just barely recovered from the 2008 recession. Growth is stagnant/slow--not Texas level prosperity. Definitely ingredients for a race war!

Looks like someone is wishing for it, but it won’t happen. Growth is not stagnant, there are many cities in Texas that can’t match Atlanta’s current prosperity. If there are any issues it’s more about class than race here, there are many well to do blacks that live in the Northern suburbs and show me one big city in the world where you don’t have class issues..
