Oakland has an identity (like Brooklyn), but it's still a subset of the whole. For example its white-collar workforce still calls SF home.
Oakland's white collar workforce overwhelmingly lives in Oakland and towns that surround Oakland in the East Bay. SF is literally next door, which is great, but Oakland is not really oriented towards SF like a satellite, the city has it's own cultural landscape, it's own arts and food scene, it's own nightlife, it's own downtown etc.

Except the people from New England and with family in Providence and Boston are telling y’all it absolutely is. Like 100%.

It can’t be compared to Baltimore for what I think are obvious reasons. Baltimroe in some ways is the anti Providence in that it tries to be as distinct from DC as possible. Providence tries to emulate Bosotn as best it can. And is partially reliant on Bostons influence economically/socially.

Actually no, and I think you should really define what Satellite City means to you, because you say it's because of shared workers and then white collar workers in Oakland live in SF, which really isnt true. So now you say the aspects that make a city independent are indicative of satellite cities LOL huh?

I don't call Cities that have their own Professional Sports teams satellite cities. Let alone large and prosperous legacy cultural institutions. I wouldn't call Oakland, Baltimore, or St. Paul satellite cities.

Shared workers are a part. And what's your evidence that they don't cross the bay in both directions? (I know the answer...many do cross the bay.)

As for sports teams....suburbs have them too. Is Anaheim its own city? Is Santa Clara? Some freeway interchange 20 miles from downtown?

But that doesn't mean one is a satellite to the other. They are neighbors.

I didn't even mention sports teams.

How's this: Alameda County had 787,300 jobs as of last year per the BLS. That was 47% of its population. San Francisco had 732,400 jobs, 89% of its population. Alameda has jobs, but it's also a bedroom county for the real job centers.

As for sports teams, look at the thread. This very page.

Okay but Oakland is not really representative of Alameda County, which is quite urban and suburban.

And again, sports teams dont define satellite cities either.
