Population growth: WA percentage wise.
Futures: Both are good, but NC edges WA.
City: WA, Seattle > Charlotte.
2nd city: NC, Raleigh > Spokane.
Landscape: WA, Mt Rainier > Mt Mitchell
Economy: Too close to call; WA for income, NC for ease of business
Higher Education: NC, Duke > UWA
Weather: NC personally.

I've never been to NC, and I think it likely wins on secondary cities between the Research Triangle, the Triad, and Asheville, but FWIW, WA has more than just Spokane for secondary cities. Tacoma, Olympia, Bellingham, Walla Walla are all definitely worth spending time in.

I recommend Washington personally as I view it kind of like a greener version of Colorado. NC is good state too though to be fair.

Population Growth: NC. NC has more secondary cities like Raleigh, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, etc that will drive growth.
Brighter Future: Technically NC, but that’s due to it coming from a lower starting point.
Best Major Cities: WA, easily.
Best Secondary Cities: WA, Vancouver > Raleigh. That’s debatable though since it’s kind of like putting Portland up against Raleigh.
Topography & Landscapes: WA, easily.
Economy: WA
Higher Education: NC, due to having Duke. For K-12, WA.
Weather: WA, but it’s debatable. Some parts of NC, like Highlands for example, have a surprisingly good climate. And to be fair, in parts of WA it rains over 100’’ annually which is excessive.

Washington is too liberal, and most of the state is flat, barren farmland. While North Carolina has less dramatic topographical features than Washington, North Carolina is a prettier, more habitable state overall, in my opinion.

NC is not more topographically diverse than Washington. That is incorrect.

Yeah, there are major countries don't have the topographical or climate diversity of Washington. You can be in sagebrush, a rainforest, and a glacier on the same day.

100%. Washington is truly stunning. After only California in topography and diversity.

I have only been to Washington once on a road trip through Rainier and down the coast. Its similar to western NC , and I assume its not as cold as NC in the winter , but they also get more rain than NC and more gloom. NC has better weather overall. I would pick washington over NC for outdoorsy stuff though, but again its a close call. I personally think Charlotte and east of there is bland. Western NC is where the beauty is.
