I don't know about Baltimore being the third largest East Coast city. City limits wise Baltimore is bigger than DC but the DC metro area has a bigger population especially with the sprawl into Virginia. I think the metro area population is more important than just the city population in deciding how big a city is.
Idk how the East Coast is defined. New York, Boston, Philly, DC, Atlanta, and Miami are all bigger than Baltimore. Tampa, Charlotte and Raleigh also have large metro areas.

Yea, Just like St. Louis, its not in a county, its independent and can't annex anything around it
I've lived in all three, but in my current state of affairs (married with two kids,) I'd have to choose Baltimore. That's good because that's where I live now. If I were childless, it would absolutely be DC and after the kids are grown, hubby and I have plans to move there (maybe.) Richmond was just too southern for me, though it's a beautiful city.

It is. Cities south of DC are not East Coast cities, they are Southern. Baltimore does have the third-largest population of any East Coast city, after New York and Philadelphia.
Baltimore ALSO has more people than Atlanta, Tampa, and Raleigh. Atlanta is only the 33rd most populous city in the country, after Tucson.
That said, I choose Richmond. Like the fact that the city is on the edge of the South. If Southern culture ever becomes too overwhelming, it's not a long drive north to escape.

Well, yeah if you excise the 4.6 + million people that live outside the city limits...give me a break!
For me it was a tough call between DC and Balto. DC is closer to being a world-class city, great transit, museums for miles. But Baltimore has some really cool neighborhoods that would be great places to live, IMO.

Ha! So when we count Atlanta's population we'll use the entire metro? For all other cities we'll only use populations within city limits? Please. Atlanta has fewer people than Tucson. Baltimore has more people than Atlanta. If you want to compare metro populations between Atlanta and Baltimore we would STILL have similar values.
It's obvious that you want to bring small-town Atlanta into this equation. Atlanta is not Baltimore, Richmond, or DC, so it's really not even relavant.

Sorry.
The Baltimore/Wash metro area is larger than Atlanta and its twenty plus counties metro area. One city uses 20 plus counties in its metro area
