Not simple at all. Both are phenomenal cities with everything imaginable. LA has the better weather. NY has the urban density. Both are very expensive because they offer the assortment of sins that man can't resist....

Just be sure you have a good job before moving to either. $1-2k rent per month is not uncommon.

A two bedroom in NYC is at least $3000. There a many that are a lot more.
