Neither one of them are good lyricists. They both rap, or in Devin's case sing and rap, about the same shallow subject matter which consists of pimping hoes and smoking weed. Too $hort is a rap legend, Devin is famous for singing a hook on a Dr. Dre song 10 years ago.

It's not even about what the rap about, its the fact that overall, Devin is a much better rapper than Too Short.
I like Too Short and he got some classic songs, but lyrically he sucks.

anybody thinkin 2short is a "lyricist" or listenin and expectin somethin complex got problems. dude is a pioneer, an innovator, and has a sick catalog. by anybody's account a legend. he has fans from lupe fiasco to kid rock.
devin the dude isn't a lyricist by any stretch of the imagination either, and u compare their first 5-6 albums together, too short > devin the dude. comparin their entire discographies is not fair because short has been holdin it down for 234234234234 years.

I chose the Bay, but Houston has played a big part in hip hop, the problem is that southern hip hop from now has basically discredited any respectability that Houston gave to the south
Although I dislike the Bay Area "Hyphy" nonsense that is out nowadays, Southern Rap is ABSOLUTE GARBAGE. The only southern rap I can generally tolerate is from Atlanta, and the Geto Boys/Scarface. I listened to some UGK, and I suppose they are alright, but southern rap is horrible, so give me the Bay with Too Short, The Coup, and their old style before any southern rap.
Now the East Coast is where you want to be for real rap, and this is coming from a person who has lived on the west his whole life and grew up listening to Ice Cube and all the old Cali rappers.
