Let's keep the criteria broad and not focus so much on the economics of it all and instead go with the social/entertainment aspects of each state, such as attractions, scenery, friendliness of residents, atmosphere, urban life, suburban life, and rural life. Also, desirability of living in each state is also a legitimate factor, but no slamming please . We got enough to deal with already.
Michigan hands down!! They have many, many more lakes, including awesome beaches on Lake Michigan. Detroit and Grand Rapids. The U.P. Amazing fall colors, apple orchards, cheap cost of living, people are friendly, etc.
How on Earth could one seriously expect to keep the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry out of this conversation?? (Go Buckeyes!)
Seriously, Michigan has some very beautiful areas outside of her cities. Still, Ohio has the better cities and a lot of beautiful scenery itself. So, Ohio gets my vote.
This is a tough one since both are great states that I would not mind living in. But I will give Michigan a slight edge because of its location around the lakes.
