WOW!! Now THAT'S crazy! I've never heard that before, but I know Mexico as a whole has always been very dangerous and Mexico City and TJ have consistently been two of the most dangerous cities in the world. Never heard about Culiacan though.

Considering NYC's amount of people, this is a low number. New Orleans, on the other hand, is still the murder capital of the USA, even with the murder rates dropping.

Oddly enough, I am noticing an uptick in mass shootings, such as the ones in San Jose, Pittsburgh, and Ft. Hood.

It is especially crazy considering El Paso borders Juarez. El Paso has a very low murder rate for its size.

I'm not trying to say that NYC is a dangerous place, although some parts of it are, the majority of these homicides occur in certain areas.

Miami in the eighties was the city with the highest murder rate. For a city of about 300-350,000. They had over 600 murders one year in the eighties. That's probably the highest rate for an overall city in this country. NY used to have over two thousand at times. Who knows how many they didn't count. Now NY is no where near that level. Much safer and nicer today.

As far as the Mexican cities having insane murder rates. That's because there is no law enforcement in Mexico. They have a very small, inadequate and very little funded one but they were no match for the "Drug Cartels" in Mexico. The mexican drug cartels ran much of Mexico. For many years they would go after your family if you were law enforcement intent on trying to bring them down. Still today, Mexico needs the United States assistance. We are training them how to police govern themselves. Plus there are major cartels in Mexico that are continually at war with each other. They don't worry about innocent victims when they do their drive bys.

I always found the Miami in the 80s thing to be wierd because the ways the Cocaine Cowboys use to kill made it seem like 95% of the people being killed were involved in "Yayo"

Speaking of which, which the crack epidemic and the cocaine trade was going on, Medellin,Colombia had THE highest murder rate in the world. At that time, it was a city of 1.3 million people and there were 500 murders a month.
Today, it is a city of about 2.1 million people and about 30 murders a month.

That's downright disgusting.

The city of Miami itself never had 600 murders in one year. That was all of Dade County, which topped out at 621 murders a year in a population of roughly 1.5 million.

Miami itself had I think 220 murders its highest year in a population of approx 330,000, which gave it a murder rate in the mid 60's per 100,000.

Nowadays New Orleans seems to get that close as far as the murder rate is concerned.
