I was curious, do you think iconic building like the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, Willis (Sears) Tower, John Hancock, or other iconic skyscrapers will ever be destroyed? What will be their fates 200 years from now? Will they still stand as part of our cities skylines, or be bulldozed for newer, more efficient buildings?
I don't think we'll ever see them be destroyed in order to build something newer/bigger/etc. I feel like the only way they'll be destroyed is by natural disaster or by attack.
We've been able to keep cathedrals standing for hundreds of years. Though it would be much tougher to keep a skyscraper standing, I believe it's something we would be able to accomplish. Also consider how advanced our engineering will be when the structural stability of these buildings comes into question.
The NIMBYs in New York are bad enough as it is...I can't imagine what their reaction would be if Donald Trump XII proposed knocking down the ESB or Chrysler in order to erect a giant gold tower in the shape of a T haha.
