To be honest, most people living in Northern California don't really give Los Angeles much thought-just as most Southern Californians arent really fixated on the goings on in Northern California.
I've lived in both areas quite extensively, people in one city don't sit around talking about the other city. There's really no reason to.
Also, if you look at other states where there is a metro area with nearly half of the population, those metros do
dominate their states as far as culture & society, economics and politics, but in the case of California, LA really does not.
I mean, just out west.
Arizona-Phoenix dominates.
Alaska-Anchorage dominates.
Colorado-Denver dominates.
Hawaii-Honolulu dominates.
Nevada-Las Vegas dominates.
New Mexico-Albuquerque dominates.
Oregon-Portland dominates.
Utah-Salt Lake dominates.
But in California's case, no, not really.
Also, as far as direct influence in people's lives in 2010, I would actually place the Bay Area above LA.
