I am a IT grad so I have to take my job search out of my city and have been mostly interviewing in ATL. I recently got a interview with Verizon in Houston and would like to know how it stacks up against ATL with regards to singles nightlife, alternative musics scene, girls, and the above mentioned activities.
As fore Houston, our hipster and elctro/indie-dance scene is VERY lame. I'm into those scenes and they seems to be pretty pathetic here for the most part. Atlanta has a fantastic indie scene so you might want to look there.

What jluke said. Austin and Dallas are MUCH better cities better for these scenes then Houston or Atlanta. Houston is mostly hip-hop and cheese cliche rock bands.

Do the people in Houston complain about their scene or are they content? I don't have to be in "hipest" scene, otherwise I would look into the coasts or Austin lol.

P.s. We are talking about alternative stuff here. Most cities are going to have more junk then what I'm talking about.

Who are the main djs and how often do they have the Indird dance/electriparties (monthly, weekly). My hometown has a monthly one called TKO with DJ Charles III and it probally the best party in the city. I know Atl has one called Fuc. K Yes with le Castle Vania. I would hope Houston's is more fun then Mobile. AL.

Neither city is considered one of the best in what you're looking for in regards to that genre. Both are more hip hop than anything. However, going off your question Atlanta would be better than Houston in both of these categories especially nightlife.

I know this because I've partied in both cities and I seem to have much more fun in Atlanta than Houston.

Although, I do love Houston

Oh I'm sure it's more fun then Mobile. As for DJ's I couldn't tell you. I've been here about six months and haven't found one person who's into the dance/electronic scene. The vast majority of the DJs here are hip-hop. If your wanting some quality DJs outside of hip hop, I would recommend Dallas. They have a WAY better electronic scene then Houston or Atlanta. I'm more into concerts and festival then dance clubs or DJs myself. We do have one good music festival here called Summer Fest. I haven't been able to go yet but they had a decent lineup last year. I know Broken Social Scene headlined the festival. But as for music festivals, at least Houston is right by Austin which is arguably the best city for music festivals in the country.

For the most part, people I've talked to that are into indie, hardcore, metal, etc are very disappointed in Houston's scene. The city is all hip hop so most people disproportionately bad taste in music outside of that scene. I've actually had this conversation with several different people sense I've been here. Normally when you try to talk to Houstonians about anything indie or "alternative" (although I think that terminology for the "underground" died in the 90's), your going to either get a blank stare or a complaint about how lame the music scene is here. This is the only big city that it wouldn't surprise me if I met someone hadn't heard of Arcade Fire or LCD Soundsystem. I actually had to explain to a girl the other day what a hipster is and another girl who Bob Dylan was. It Amazes me how oblivious so many people are to quality music in this town. Anyway, it's probably still better then Mobile but Atlanta has a much more diverse music scene then Houston.

Also, I think you might REALLY like Dallas' scene bast on what you've said.

Lol that sounds awful. Not knowing what a Hipster is or Bob Dylan? I remember having to explain what a breakdown was to metal fans around here. I thought that was strange.

If you had to explain to someone who Bob Dylan was, then I think this person must have awaken from a 40 year coma or this person is not aware of anything outside of Brittany Spears or whatever pop culture crap is coming out of Hollywood these days! I'm not into his music, but I do know who Bob Dylan is, I'm also in my late 30's as well. I am aware that Atlanta's nightlife is mainly hip hop (that is the biggest scene there) but thare is a variety of everything in the ATL, don't know anything about Houston, except from what I hear on these boards, GOOD or BAD!

This is absolutely excellent advice. At the end of the day, both cities are highly comparable and stack up well against each other. The advantage that you have coming from Mobile is that the Southeastern culture and aesthetic that you are familiar with in Mobile is also prevalent in Atlanta while the Gulf Coast aesthetic, culture, and climate that characterizes Mobile is also prevalent in Houston. In short, either city would require minor, if any, adjustments on your part.

Both cities attract young professionals and also have a young population buoyed by the large number of universities in both metros. If you get tired of either, your a quick drive from two of the coolest college towns in the US which are also among the best live music scenes--Athens and Austin. You really won't go wrong with either. Just pick the job that has the best potential for your career in the long run.
