I was doing a Google News Search for "Union Square" and I was quite surprised that in the first page of 10, I got 5 NYC-related hits and only 2 SF-related hits, which claims that while SF may be more beautiful/charming, New York's may be more popular. But I have some pictures for you to compare:

I've been to both many times, and both are among the best urban spaces in the country. I'm not sure why the animosity.

Personally, I'd go with Baltimore's Union Square

New York City:

(This was from May 1861):

San Francisco:

(This was taken in 1875):
That 1875 picture of SF's Union Square is gorgeous. Look at that architecture. God, I wish the 1906 earthquake didn't happen. SF's Union Square indeed does have charm because what you don't see in those pictures are the Cable Cars going by every few minutes.

As it is, I'd give NYC's Union Square the edge because of its farmer's market, plus it blends in with it surroundings better and has more of that parklike feeling.

Well, the thread started out with every single photo being a violation of copyright (gleamed from other sites that are not photo sharing or wiki sites), and several snarky and snide comments. So the door will close very soon if folks don't just stick to the main subject please. For those needing to read up on the room posting guidelines, find them here: What To Post In This Room (and - NOT). READ BEFORE POSTING ****

Thank you
