Default Pre-Giuliani vs Post-Giuliani

Which NYC did/do you prefer.

I myself am a pre-giuliani guy.

Yeah I'm not an NYC resident. I'm just an NYC tourist at most.

It's like me saying Pre-Daley, Post- Daley (hasn't happened yet) and expecting you to know about the differences.

Old time New Yorkers almost always say Pre-Giuliani, at least the ones that I have come into contact with and this topic comes up.

I, otoh, am a transplant to the area, but first visited NYC as a kid(from California) back in the late 1980s and if I recall correctly, NYC seems a bit nicer now-Times Square for example is way more visitor friendly now then before. And the city's crime rate is now exemplary so for me its better now.

But I guess the old-timers would know better so I'll defer to their wisdom and more personal knowledge.

I like provincialism(to a degree), which breeds a clear and unique cultural identity and level of authenticity.

NYC has been watered down, it sold its "soul" for fortune and fame.

Also, according to a post on the NY forum, David Dinkins actually started the plans, with Giuliani carrying out the plans.

Here's the topic where this was posted: crime in cities in upstate new york
