Hi Bette,
Our neighborhood is fairly diverse - we have everything from young professionals to retired adults living here. The community is split into two sections - Bradbury Trace and Bradbury Glen - and consists of ~250 homes. Bradbury Glen is where my home is and it tends to be quieter with fewer children and more privacy/space between neighbors. I especially love my lot - that's one of the main reasons we bought it actually. It is .283 acres and there is a tree protection area on one side so I know nothing else will ever be built there. Plus there is space for a big, green yard as well as the wooded area. It's pretty.
The neighborhood is located between RTP and Brier Creek, which is 15-20 minute drive to Cary. I actually used to live in an apartment in Cary and while I liked living there, I decided not to buy a home there for a few reasons. First, the value that you get for homes is much better. You can still get brand new, quality homes but for a fraction that you'd pay in Cary. Plus, Cary town laws supercede even the most stringent of Homeowner's Associations and are extremely strict around what you can & cannot do in terms of home improvements. I've heard stories of people not able to replace their siding because the color they originally had was no longer on the approved list. It's beautiful in Cary because of these rules, but it wasn't something I wanted to deal with as a homeowner.
I'm not sure about starting a business... I've worked only for large companies (IBM, and now Lenovo - the maker of ThinkPad computers). One thing that will definitely help is that there are a lot of colleges and universities. I got my MBA from UNC and several of my classmates have started their own small businesses with the "entrepreneurial spirit" they got from the classroom. Good luck!
Let me know if you have any other questions, or if you're in town and like to come take a look.
