I just happened to catch "The Rocker" on TV tonight (FX). Hadn't seen it before. It was set in Cleveland and featured a number of shots of the city, including the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame, the Free Stamp, the Agora, etc. It actually made the city look pretty decent, not gloomy and dreary like some of the other Cleveland movies I've seen.

Come back for a visit , Those who have never been WELCOME
Your missing alot

[quote=andrew61;17320163]I hated "Light of Day" and "Welcome to Collinwood" because they made Cleveland look oh, so dreary and depressing. "American Splendor" had some decent Lakewood shots, but in it the city looked like it was on the bland side of average. "A Christmas Story" is about the only movie I've seen that made Cleveland look photogenic at all.

I'm always wondering how come places like NYC and Chicago can look so great in movies, LA and San Francisco too, but Cleveland not so much.
Cleveland could look great in any film...but most movies play to the image that all of Cleveland is dreary, down and dirty.

The movies currently being filmed, I don't see how they're going to make Cleveland look dreary... Especially, with the Avengers. That's going to be fabulous and full of action. These film makers are using Cleveland, for the tax credits... They're not going to make the city look bad.

I don't know, parts of ol' I Alex Cross might look a little ugly with the weather this week ... and the water main break, lol

The Avengers is being filmed in Cleveland but the movie is set in New York so of course it will look good. Cleveland movies set in Cleveland tend use the city to play a depressing aspect of the movie...Light of Day and Stranger than Paradise are two examples.

Let's just hope that our reputation will change over time... I do not like it when film makers use Cleveland to make dreary movies... At the end of the day, it's about generating revenue for our local business owners (hotels, restaurants, factories making things for their movies, etc...). They utilize & pay our services, and we make accomodations for them, not to mention the tax credits they're receiving. At the end of the day, it's about money. This is a win-win situation for them and for Cleveland businesses. "Bring the money" is what I like to say...

Best Cleveland movie is "The Fortune Cookie"; 1966 Billy Wilder movie pairing-up Jack Lemon and Walther Mathau for the 1st time.
