Dear Clevelanders,

I am looking at taking a position at Case Western and are wondering about the Coventry and Mayfield Rd area in general?

I have investigated all the stats on the city, but I'd be more comfortable hearing someone's opinion on the area.

I'm 33 & married. My wife and I run a lot outside, so specifically if you could comment on safety that would be great. We will be moving from downtown Minneapolis near the U of M - so used to lots of variety in our surroundings.

Driving through during the day it does not look too bad, but that is just my opinion after a quick look around.

Thank you in advance.

Thats a very good location in my opinion..You and your wife should have no problem there..Its university town not only surrounded by safe areas but you also have a good, diverse group of people....I wish you well

I agree that's a good area.

The best areas to run are the winding roads to the immediate south...Cleveland Hts and Shaker Hts...gorgeous homes/Shaker Lakes etc.

Also, I would highly recommend running through Lakeview Cemetery, in between Coventry and Little Italy. It's a HUGE beautiful cemetery with hilly, winding trails and roads and beautiful old trees. There is also some interesting stonework throughout, including the tombs of President Garfield, J.D. Rockefeller, Elliot Ness, etc.

It's my favorite place to jog in Cleveland besides the metroparks.

Also, the further north you go from Mayfield Rd, the more unsafe it gets...until you reach the freeway.

Now correct me if Im wrong, but the further north from Mayfield Rd, isn't that entering into East Cleveland???? because if that's the case, STAY AWAY FROM THERE, lol

That would be a good area, Cleveland Heights is a great place! In the Coventry area, people are used to joggers, bikers, people walking their dogs, etc. Also, Cleveland Heights has sidewalks everywhere and some really pretty neighborhoods to explore. If you prefer, there are some parks close by.

I would recommend staying South of Mayfield Road for safety.

Other benefits of this area include:
- public transportation
- a lot of things to do! The Coventry area has festivals and events in the summer, there are a lot of great restaurants there (and Little Italy is just down the road). You're near the museums and only about 20 minutes from the city.
- Pick any grocery store you want. Within a few miles, you have a Whole Foods, Giant Eagle, Zagara's, Heinen's, Marc's, Dave's...am I missing any others? Basically, take your pick. I love the Whole Foods store, personally
- another perk to Cleveland Heights is that there are a lot of local businesses. Of course there are some chain stores, but you have a lot of different options on Coventry Road and around the area. I love all the local restaurants.

If you have any other questions, I can try to help. That was just a short list of things that came to my mind.
