On the Rapid, why do people walk in between the cars of the train?

I can't figure out why RTA even has doors that make this action possible. I could see if the doors were there for emergency evacuation, but instead, it's almost as if they invite people to use them. There are signs on the doors that say not to walk between cars while the train is moving, but of course, people don't pay heed and they do it anyway. Isn't this a disaster waiting to happen?

It just baffles me.

They are for emergency evacuation. If these actions baffle you, you ought to check out New York's subway.

You are absolutely allowed to use them when they train is stopped. I've never wseen anyone do it when the train is in motion. That's asking for trouble.

Peregrine, I just saw it happen yesterday, lol.

Cleveland_Collector, why, what is so crazy about the NYC subway? I used it a couple years ago during a visit, but I don't remember seeing anything striking. Now I'm curious!

That's what I was going to say.

The most notable "car switchers" in NYC are the 1) panhandlers, 2) "entertainers" doing gymnastics and the like looking to get your donations (i.e. the performer panhandlers), 3) the groups selling products (or religion) for some cause (i.e. the "good cause" panhandlers), 4) the subway musicians (i.e. the music panhandlers), and 5) the MTA police (i.e. the anti-panhandlers).
