What do you know about the Randall Park mall? BTW, speaking of rough crowds, did you hear about those shootings in downtown Detroit during the fireworks? Yikes!

I saw w/ interest how huge Randall Park Mall has been. I cruised on Google Maps in street view around the mall to see what else is there. When I got to Emery and Northfield Roads NE of the mall, I wondered what the heck that big old building at the SW corner originally was. Was it converted to section 8 housing, I wondered. But I finally see it was indeed a Holiday Inn, so it's good to know. I've noticed not only does the mall dry up, even the surrounding businesses risk drying up as well (Bannister Mall in Kansas City, MO, demolished; South Park Mall in Shreveport, LA, repurposed; Rolling Acres Mall in Akron, OH, still standing but may be demolished if its taxes still aren't paid). Many stores gone, some eateries gone too, but a five-star hotel too? Kinda speaks volumes in a way or something like that...

One more thing, SE of RPM, on Miles Rd just W of Northfield Rd, the building on the N side looks like it used to be Circuit City store and was closed not too long ago, considering it still looked good and hadn't deteriorated yet. How long ago did it close? When the whole chain folded? Same thing happened here in my state, Oklahoma.

The Circuit City closed a little before the rest of the chain folded. I'd say it closed in 2007-08. RPM was just about out of gas by then.
